Sale Australian rules and touch football clubs and players can look forward to a brighter future following a lighting upgrade at Stephenson Park.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today officially switched on the new brighter lights on the main oval.

Record numbers of people in Gippsland, boys and girls, men and women, are signing up to play Australian rules and touch football – and they deserve modern, safe and inclusive facilities.

Stephenson Park is one of the busiest ovals and is home the Sale City Football Netball Club, Sale and District Touch Association, the Sale Umpires Association and the Longford Cricket Club.

The new and improved lights means local Aussie rules and touch football teams have the flexibility they need to train more often and safely, later into the evening.

The upgrade brings the lighting up to AFL standard for night matches, meaning more games under lights and the opportunity to host other club and community events at the precinct at night.

The Victorian Government provided $100,000 towards the project.

Ms Shing also thanked project partners Wellington Shire Council, the Sale City Football Netball Club and the Sale and District Touch Association for their contributions.
