The Andrews Labor Government will deliver funding to help the Warragul Drouin Pistol Club build the modern facilities they need to grow and welcome more members.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing joined Member for Eastern Victoria Jeff Bourman to announce the funding, which will create more opportunities for locals to get involved in the sport across the region, from grassroots to the elite.

Shooting sports clubs are one of the many examples where rural communities connect and clubs like Warragul Drouin play a vital role in promoting safe and responsible use of firearms.

That’s why the Labor Government is kicking in $1 million, as part of the Victorian Budget 2017/18, to continue the successful Shooting Sports Facilities Program.

With 188 projects successfully funded through the initial $12.48 million program, in addition to club contributions, a total of $18.2 million has been invested into Victorian sporting clubs.

This new investment will provide further support to a range of targeted initiatives, with specific focus on educational and participation opportunities.

We also know that potential contamination of current and former shooting ranges by lead and other materials is a concern shared by many communities and a challenge for the sector.

To combat this, a further $3 million has been allocated from the Government’s Sustainability Fund to enable environmental assessments and remediation works at limited sites.

The Shooting Sports Facilities Program is part of our commitment to upgrade sports facilities for all Victorians, and we’re getting on with helping clubs to build them.
