The Andrews Labor Government is boosting safety in Gippsland with a $5.4 million package of works focussing on Maffra-Sale Road.

Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing today announced safety upgrades to a 16 kilometre stretch of road between Maffra and Sale.

As a result of community feedback, these works will include the introduction of wire rope barriers together with a wider centreline , rumble strips and sealed road shoulders.

The project will also include repairs to existing safety barriers and improved access to local properties.

Over a five year period there have been 18 crashes on Maffra-Sale Road, resulting in 12 serious injuries.

The works are expected to be complete by late-2017.

The upgrades are being delivered as part of the Labor Government’s Safe System Road Infrastructure Program, funded by the Transport Accident Commission and delivered by VicRoads.

This program is an important part of the Government’s Towards Zero road safety vision which is to have a 15 per cent reduction in serious injuries and less than 200 deaths on Victorian roads by 2020.
