NEW PAVILION FOR GLENGARRY NETBALL AND TENNIS PLAYERS

Monday, 14th August

More women and girls will soon be shooting goals and hitting aces, thanks to the newly upgraded Glengarry Netball and Tennis Pavilion.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing officially opened the new multi-use pavilion today, right beside the courts on the Glengarry Recreation Reserve, made possible by a $100,000 Andrews Labor Government grant.

Grassroots clubs are the heart of our community, and we’re giving players and teams at the Glengarry Tennis Club and Glengarry Football Netball Club the safe, modern and inclusive facilities they deserve.

Women and girls are signing up to play local sport in record numbers. But many facilities were built in a bygone era where change rooms for females were poor or didn’t even exist.

Ms Shing said she believes every player deserves equal access to equal facilities – and this revamp will benefit every woman and girl who plays at the reserve.

The new pavilion includes dedicated female change rooms, a first aid room, accessible toilet, umpires change room, a function room with kitchen, and covered viewing areas.

This is just one of many projects across the state benefiting from our $120 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The fund helps clubs rejuvenate tired grounds and ageing clubrooms, and includes $14 million to build female-friendly facilities
.
This is one of the biggest ever investments in women’s participation in sport by an Australian state government.

The Labor Government is also getting on with turning the Latrobe Valley in to one of regional Australia’s top sporting hubs through a $85 million investment in its sporting infrastructure. For more information visit http://lva.vic.gov.au/
