MELBOURNE’S OUTER SOUTH EAST SET FOR SUMMER ROAD REPAIRS
Wednesday, 18 October 2017
The Andrews Labor Government is investing more that $20 million to rebuild and repair key arterial roads in Melbourne’s east and far outer east, to make them smoother and stronger.
The major upgrade package is part of the Labor Government’s doubling of road maintenance spending.
Koo Wee Rup-Longwarry Road in Modella, Westernport Road in Lang Lang, South Gippsland Highway in Caldermeade and Balnarring Road on the Mornington Peninsula will be rebuilt when the weather improves this summer.
The upgrades will mean safer and stronger roads for locals and heavy vehicles transporting goods across the region.
At Modella, a farming region between Koo Wee Rup and Gippsland townships Drouin and Warragul, a 3km section of Koo Wee Rup-Longwarry Road between Bridge Road and Humphries Road will be rebuilt.
At Lang Lang, a 1.2km section of Westernport Road between South Gippsland Highway and McDonalds Track will receive repairs after it has become deteriorated by trucks accessing local sand quarries.
On the South Gippsland Highway in Caldermeade, a 750 metre eastbound section between Warrook Farm and McDonalds Road will also be repaired, improving the road for those travelling between Phillip Island and Melbourne.
On the Mornington Peninsula, a 3.2km section of Balnarring Road between Warrawee Road and Myers Road will undergo a rebuild and improvements will also be made to the Balnarring Road and Bittern-Dromana Road intersection.
The works will be carried out by VicRoads over the summer months, allowing for the roads to cure appropriately during dry and warmer weather.
