GETTING IT DONE: PORT OF SALE CULTURAL HUB OPEN

25th January, 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to deliver for Gippsland’s growing communities, with the opening of the Port of Sale Cultural Hub.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing, representing Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford and Minister for Local Government Marlene Kairouz, today officially opened the $11 million Port of Sale Cultural Hub.

The Labor Government contributed $4.75 million towards the Hub, which will expand the already impressive program of local art events and exhibitions, increase library services and boost the area’s appeal as a community gathering place.

The project created 38 construction jobs, secured 29 existing jobs and created 43 indirect jobs in Sale, and has been completed ahead of schedule.

The Hub includes an expanded Gippsland Art Gallery along with a new Sale Public Library, new library headquarters, offices, public meeting spaces and a centre café and lounge area with free WIFI.

Establishing a larger and better Sale Public Library in a premiere location will also encourage greater community use, thereby improve Sale’s pride of place and liveability.

The Hub is part of the $23.4 million Port of Sale redevelopment which included the redevelopment of an office building in Desailly Street as the new headquarters of Wellington Shire Council.

The redevelopment is expected to generate around $30 million in total economic output for Sale and the region.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing:

“We’re making sure Central Gippsland gets the arts and cultural facilities it deserves and working hard to improve community facilities across the board.

“This hub will be a real drawcard for visitors and the upgraded library and art gallery will continue to build on Sale’s reputation for artistic and creative excellence.”
