The Andrews Labor Government has announced a funding to improve visitor facilities and recreation at Blue Rock Lake as part of a new initiative to improve Victoria’s waterways.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing announced the $295,000 project to be delivered by Southern Rural Water to build an all abilities playground at the Lake.

In addition, the project will provide disability parking and improve paths for disability access to encourage a wider group of people to enjoy the Lake which is already popular for boating, swimming and fishing for local families.

This project is one of nine priority waterways that will benefit from the Labor Government’s $3.2 million Boosting Recreational Water Use Initiative (BRWUI) to protect and enhance waterways across Victoria.

The BRWUI will also fund recreational projects for Melbourne’s ‘Waterways of the West’ (Moonee Ponds Creek, Werribee River and Maribynong River), Barwon River, Lake Eppalock, Lake Eildon, Campaspe River and Wimmera River.

These sites were selected as they offer multiple community benefits and offer recreational opportunities for the local area.

Project planning and development for all BRWUI projects will be in partnership with recreational users, local community members, Aboriginal Victorians, Traditional Owners and other key stakeholders, prior to delivery of on-ground works.

The Labor Government’s Water for Victoria policy recognises the connection that communities, Traditional Owners and other Aboriginal Victorians have to waterways and their landscapes.
