WORKS UNDERWAY ON MORWELL STATION CAR PARK
Wednesday 7th January 2020
Public transport users in the Latrobe Valley can look forward to easier access to services, with works underway to build a new car park at Morwell Station thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
The station’s new car park is being built to the west of the station, on transport land next to the rail line. There will be up to 53 new spaces, with better lighting and CCTV throughout the carpark.
Two accessible spaces will be incorporated into the current car park near the station entrance, and existing accessible spaces will be upgraded to make it easier for people with reduced mobility to connect to public transport.
The new car park at Morwell Station is part of the Labor Government’s $9 million Gippsland Rail Corridor Station Upgrade Program, which has delivered accessibility improvements and upgraded facilities at Morwell, Moe, Traralgon and Trafalgar stations.
Improvements already delivered at Morwell Station include creating a new platform entry point, building a ramp connecting the station to the underpass, and lowering the ticket counter.
The project will be supported by Gippsland-based subcontractors, creating local jobs and boosting Gippsland’s economy.
Construction of the car park is scheduled to be completed mid next year.
Further free car parking will be delivered across the Latrobe Valley through the Labor Government’s Regional Car Parks Fund, which will make it easier to get around Victoria’s growing regional cities.
