BOOSTING SOCIAL HOUSING IN WARRAGUL

More Victorians will have a place to call home thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s social housing investment in Warragul.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne today visited the site of two newly built three-bedroom homes that will soon be tenanted.

These brand new houses are part of $6.85 million being invested in the Warragul area, which will see a total of 22 new homes built for those who need them most.

This takes to eight the number of new social housing properties built recently in Warragul. Another seven are under construction, and another seven will start construction soon.. The homes will be comfortable, modern and energy efficient, and part of vibrant and well-connected neighbourhoods.

These projects in Warragul are expected to create 62 local jobs for builders, electricians, plumbers and other tradespeople.

They will provide safe, stable and secure housing for Victorians, including people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, older women, Aboriginal Victorians, and people with a disability or mental illness, so they can live a life they value.

The Labor Government is also investing $3.74m to build 16 new one-bedroom units in Drouin in partnership with the Haven Foundation. Construction is about to commence on the $5.34 million project which will provide independent supported units for those living with ongoing mental health issues.

The projects are part of a record investment in social and affordable housing by the Labor Government.

The landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build – the largest single investment in social and affordable housing in Australia’s history – is delivering more than 12,000 new homes and creating an average of 10,000 jobs per year over the next four years.

This investment includes $1.25 billion in regional areas, ensuring the economic and social benefits are felt in communities across the state.
