GIVING YARRAM PLAYERS AND THEIR FAMILIES THE BEST FACILITIES

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with the job of giving the Yarram community the great sports facilities it deserves.

Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing today joined Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Darren McCubbin to open the new $2.6 million Yarram Recreation Reserve pavilion, made possible by an Andrews Labor Government grant.

The Labor Government promised communities all over Victoria the safe, modern facilities that they deserve – and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.

The new pavilion comes complete with a multipurpose area for the important gatherings that keep communities connected, and the vital fundraisers that help clubs grow. New change rooms and amenities for players will give local participants a home base they can be proud of.

The Labor Government’s investment includes women’s change rooms, so that female participants never again have to change in storage sheds, canteens or their cars. Some 40 per cent of club members at the facility are women – and everyone deserves equal facilities.

The new facility is fully accessible for players with a disability – and there are 35 who regularly use the reserve. It means everyone can enjoy sport, and relish the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

The Labor Government’s $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is helping clubs all over Victoria update tired grounds and build the facilities they need. A $10 million fund for women’s change rooms is the single biggest investment in women’s participation in sport by a state government.

The project was funded in partnership with the Wellington Shire Council and the Yarram Recreation Reserve Committee of Management.
