Thursday, 29 March, 2018
Wonthaggi Magistrates’ Court will reopen its doors following the completion of a $205,000 upgrade to improve disability access.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing announced upgrades were completed this week and the court will resume sitting from Tuesday, 3 April.
The courthouse now features automatic entry doors, new stairs, a ramp, and hand rails to improve access into the building.
The upgrades also included the installation of a new accessible registry counter and widening of doors and pathways to enhance mobility within the court.
An electric lift will be installed within the next few months to provide access from ground level to the front verandah.
Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing:
“These upgrades will provide critical access to justice for people with disabilities, particularly those experiencing challenges with mobility.”
“Everybody deserves to be able to attend and access a court building, and these upgrades will provide immense benefit for the people of Wonthaggi.”
