LOCAL KIDS TO BENEFIT FROM YARRAM’S NEW COMMUNITY HUB

Labor Member for Eastern Victorian Harriet Shing today joined Wellington Shire Mayor Caroline Crossley to open the Yarram District Community Hub.

The new $5 million complex will be a one-stop-shop for community and family services including more early years learning space for children.

The hub includes early childhood development services, maternal and child health services, long day care and out-of-schools-hours care.

A kindergarten and playgroups have also been integrated into the hub.

Currently the kindergarten has 40 enrolments, with a capacity to enrol up to 54 children.

Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children’s services have the space and flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs.

The Andrews Labor Government is investing $50 million in the early childhood sector through the building and upgrading of kindergartens and children’s centres across Victoria.

It is also providing up to $83.7 million over four years in additional funding to support kindergartens to transition to the new improved staff-to-child ratios.
