Students at Warragul North Primary School can now enjoy brand new play equipment, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government’s Pick My Project initiative.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today joined celebrations at the new play space, which received $100,000 in support from the Labor Government’s program through two projects.

One project contributed $60,000 to the school’s replacement of play equipment and amenities that were more than 50 years old, while the second provided $40,000 to re-surface the playground area with “rubbertough” to improve safety.

The projects allowed for new equipment in the playground, along with landscaping work to provide the school’s 600 students with a safe and accessible play space.

The updated playground has a strong nature theme, with a creek, pond and obstacle course constructed, while the undercover decking area facilitates outdoor learning.

To honour the school’s history, the play space is equipped with a marble run where children can race marbles down the hillside, a nod to how a section of the site was previously used in the past.

Pick My Project is a Victorian first – a $30 million initiative that puts decision making in the hands of Victorians.

The Marble Alley Redevelopment and Playground re-surfacing projects were amongst 22 successful projects from the Pick My Project initiative in the Gippsland region.

The region received more than $2.40 million in funding through the initiative, after a total of 17,537 votes were cast.

Other projects in the Gippsland region include, a ‘Southern Lights’ attraction in Korumburra, mental health education across Latrobe Valley secondary schools and upgrading the Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club community area.
