NEW ROUNDABOUT AT NOTORIOUS LANCE CREEK INTERSECTION

Tuesday, 17 October 2017

The Andrews Labor Government has made the notoriously, high-risk Lance Creek intersection safer, building an innovative new roundabout.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced that the new roundabout is complete at the intersection of Korumburra-Wonthaggi Road, Glen Alvie Road, West Creek Road and Bird Road in Lance Creek.

The single lane roundabout is designed to improve visibility and to make sure drivers approach the intersection at a safe speed.

Raised platforms have been built on all four approaches to slow traffic down as drivers approach the intersection.

The road has been widened to improve visibility and rumble strips have been added to make sure that drivers are aware that they are approaching the intersection.

There’s also additional street lighting and a new 80km/h speed limit.

In the last five years, there have been five crashes resulting in injuries and a trend of drivers failing to give-way at the intersection.

In response to community concerns, the Lance Creek intersection received several safety improvements prior to the roundabout being built including upgraded signage, vegetation removal ‘Stop Ahead’ road markings.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing:

“The raised roundabout will mean drivers will slow down as they approach, greatly reducing the risk of crashes at this intersection.”

“Everyone makes mistakes on our roads, but no one should die because of them- that’s why we’re investing in safety infrastructure that we know saves lives”
