SLAM DUNK FOR TRARALGON SPORTS STADIUM

Tuesday, 16 April 2019

Work is underway to transform the Traralgon Sports Stadium into an indoor sporting powerhouse, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today kicked off primary work on the $19 million expansion of the Catterick Crescent site alongside Latrobe City Mayor Graeme Middlemiss.

The redevelopment will involve a four-court extension to the existing stadium featuring a new show court and 3000 spectator seats, changing facility and multipurpose centre to host regional, national and international events.

The new courts will be fit for netball, basketball, badminton and other indoor sports in addition to an overhaul of the existing indoor stadium and administration areas.

The Labor Government’s contribution for the project comes from $17 million through the Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative, and $2 million through the Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme.

GROW Gippsland and the Industry Capability Network have been engaged to ensure the construction prioritises local Gippsland jobs.

The projected is expected to be complete by mid-2020.
