The Andrews Labor Government has upgraded more than 30 local roads across Gippsland, delivering a safer and more reliable journey for locals.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said around $2 million has been spent on road improvement projects in the region this financial year as part of the Labor Government’s Building Our Regions program.

A major upgrade was undertaken at the intersection of Meeniyan-Promontory Road and Millar Road in the coastal township of Yanakie, with new kerb and channel, left and right turn lanes, line marking and asphalting.

The historic township of Walhalla in Gippsland’s north-west received 700 metres of new road surface as well as significant drainage and roadside cleaning works.

A natural granite stone was used for the road’s surface to complement the heritage landscape of this popular tourist destination. The new sealing coincided with a six-month 30km/h speed limit trial to boost safety for pedestrians and drivers in the town.

In Toongabbie, a right turn new slip lane was built at the intersection of Traralgon-Maffra Road and King Street, improving safety for drivers turning right into King Street.

The Labor Government’s Building Our Regions program has delivered more than 350 community-based improvement projects across Victoria since it began in 2016.

VicRoads works collaboratively with local councils and communities to deliver small-scale projects that improve safety and provide better journeys.
