CONSTITUENCY QUESTIONS

It is good to be back. My question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and I ask him about the work in relation to the introduction of flexible wire safety barriers throughout Gippsland and along major roads not just as far as Central Gippsland through to the Latrobe Valley but down into South Gippsland.

PLANNING SCHEME AMENDMENT GC65

We have heard a lot in relation to this motion since it was first brought on for debate, and as Mr Eideh has just indicated, there is a lot more that could be said about it.

I move: That the Council take note of the report. In doing so I would like to begin by acknowledging the extensive work undertaken by the secretariat in coordinating hearings, transcripts and a vast number of correspondences and communications with agencies and organisational and department heads.

WONTHAGGI SECONDARY COLLEGE

It was a fantastic win for the Wonthaggi community last Friday when Premier Daniel Andrews and I attended Wonthaggi Secondary College to confirm $31 million in funding for a brand new school and additional sporting facilities as part of our commitment to making sure that we deliver what the Liberals cannot and would not deliver when they were last in government.

LIFELINE GIPPSLAND

I rise today to congratulate the various members of Lifeline Gippsland and the work that was undertaken in recent times to take three miniature alpacas on a jaunt through town.

CAPE PATERSON SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB

On another matter, it was absolutely fantastic to return to the Cape Paterson Surf Life Saving Club to confirm that the Andrews Labor government will fund $2.3 million to make sure that this club can be rebuilt with the facilities that it needs and deserves to keep Victorians safe, to enhance the work of its volunteers and to provide the education around marine safety that is so crucial.

GIPPSLAND PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The matter which I wish to raise this evening is for the attention of the Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, in the other place, and I refer to disruptions which have occurred recently and which will occur as part of upgrades along the Cranbourne–Dandenong route, as well as the Gippsland line, as part of maintenance and upgrades.

MORWELL COMMUNITY SAFETY DAY

My question is for the Minister for Police, and it relates to the Morwell community safety day which was held on the weekend at Morwell Town Common and was the product of a great deal of effort by the Morwell Neighbourhood Watch Latrobe City group — and for the sake of clarity I must confirm that I am also a member of that group.

The matter I wish to raise today is for the attention of the Minister for Public Transport, Ms Allan.

HARRIET’S SPEECH ON VOLUNTARY ASSISTED DYING FRIDAY, 3RD NOVEMBER, 2017

I rise today to speak on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017, and in doing so I want to begin by acknowledging the vast number of contributions that have been made to elected representatives, including me, in the course of this particular debate. We have seen an extensive parliamentary inquiry. We have seen an expert medical panel's consideration and report, which culminated in recommendations which have been adopted as the basis for this bill.
