The Andrews Labor Government is helping to preserve East Gippsland’s precious natural environment, with grants allocated to local Landcare groups in the North-East Region
.
Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing today announced a total of $146,838 in grants from the Victorian Landcare Grants program, which provides funding for our local Landcare and environmental volunteer groups and networks to support local priority projects undertaken in the region.

As well as local staff support and maintenance, larger grants have been allocated to local projects that look to improve biodiversity through revegetation, and remnant vegetation enhancement and protection.

Grants for the following projects in East Gippsland are:

• $ 6,387 for Jarrahmond Linkages in Jarrahmond
• $ 9,875 for Martins Creek Rainforest Recovery in Goongerah
• $ 6,352 for The View on Raymond Island
• $14,380 for Habitat and History Connections at Newmerella
• $36,325 for Improving Soil Health & Biodiversity in Far East Gippsland for Orbost and surrounds
• $ 2,775 for Bruthen Rail Trail and Enhancement at Bruthen
• $47,119 for Digging in the Dirt for Bairnsdale and surrounds
• $ 6,794 for Rehabilitate Gabo Island near Mallacoota
• $ 9,631 for Lake Wat Wat Rainforest Rescue near Marlo
• $ 7,200 for Upper Mitta Vegetation Management around Omeo, Benambra & dinner Plains

The grants program aims to provide funding for these groups to undertake on-ground works that contribute to the improvement and protection of the region’s natural resources.

Funding also supports projects that promote innovation, as well as build capacity through activities for land stewardship and on-ground change. Start-up funding and maintenance grants ensure a strong Landcare base across the State.
