The Andrews Labor Government has committed $1 million for Sustainability Victoria to deliver the Victorian Litter Plan, which includes litter grants and programs for local councils and the community to reduce litter in the State.

Harriet Shing, Member for Eastern Victoria Region has welcomed the grants saying the Andrews’ Labor Government is taking action to tackle litter and we are now seeing positive results.

Ms Shing says one of the key projects funded in the package is the Litter and Illegal Dumping Grants program, which targets littering in retail areas and illegal dumping in green spaces. The program recently announced $130,000 worth of projects to six local Councils.

The funded projects include cameras to catch illegal dumping as well as education campaigns to help communities take action to reduce both littering and illegal dumping.

Ms Shing has congratulated Baw Baw Shire Council for its grant, saying the funds will allow Drouin and Warragul to contribute to Victoria’s ongoing excellent record for reducing litter.

The Council project will involve the installation of cameras at illegal dumping hotspots to deter offenders and reduce the impacts of illegal dumping.
